YOGOWYPI was a phrase shared with students on our first day of school, which was an unbelievable four weeks ago! Time is flying by as we have settled into routines, settled into classes, and begun a flurry of activities.
YOGOWYPI is an acronym for You Only Get Out What You Put In. The challenge to students on the first day was to meet the challenge of the new school year with energy and effort. Those two items, while easy to bring on the first day of school, can take you a long way in school and in life. Since the newness of the new year has worn off, the challenge is now to bring them to school each and every day. It's not easy, because life gets in the way. Classes get in the way. Distractions of all kinds get in the way.
The best way to have a great high school year and a great high school experience is to participate. Students can be present and engage in every class period of every day. Students can participate in activities before and after school, whether they're on a roster or in the stands. The encouraging part is that we're all capable of engaging with those around us. We all have something to bring to the table. Sometimes we just need reminded or encouraged to bring the energy and effort, because You Only Get Out What You Put In.
